Line-item visibility

The ability to see individual costs or components separately rather than only as a bundle.

Line-item visibility is the ability to see each cost, feature, permission, or usage component separately instead of only as part of a bundle. In security and cloud operations, that means being able to tell which service, API call, agent action, or subscription tier is consuming resources, and how much each one contributes to the total.

This matters because bundles can hide waste, overpermissioning, and abuse. If security teams cannot inspect individual line items, they may miss shadow IT, unexpected metered actions, or a compromised account that is quietly driving up usage. Clear line-item visibility supports least privilege, chargeback, and anomaly detection by making it easier to compare expected behavior with actual consumption. In practice, defenders use it in SaaS dashboards, cloud billing reports, and entitlement reviews to identify unused features, risky integrations, and suspicious spikes before they become a larger operational or financial problem.
