A live AI inventory is a continuously updated record of all AI systems in an organization, including owners, access rights, data sources, model versions, and integrations. Unlike a static spreadsheet or approval list, it reflects what is actually deployed right now, including embedded AI features, agent workflows, and third-party services that may change without a formal launch process.
This matters because security teams cannot protect what they cannot see. A current inventory helps enforce least privilege, identify shadow AI, track dependencies, and revoke access when a system is retired. In attacks, missing inventory can leave exposed agents, forgotten API keys, or unmonitored data flows active for months. In defense, the inventory supports runtime authorization, monitoring, incident response, and safe decommissioning by showing which AI assets are allowed to do what, and who is responsible for them.
