Live translation is the real-time conversion of spoken language into another language. A speech app records audio, sends it to a translation engine, and returns translated speech or text with little delay. In mobile tools, this often depends on microphone access, continuous audio processing, and sometimes cloud services.
In cyber security, live translation matters because it expands the trust boundary around voice data. If an app keeps listening in the background, users may not notice when capture starts or stops, which can increase privacy risk if permissions are abused or the device is compromised. Attackers can also target voice features with malicious overlays, rogue apps, or social engineering in multilingual conversations. Defenders look for clear recording indicators, least-privilege microphone access, visible stop controls, and strong handling of stored or transmitted audio.
