Magnetic tag

A concealed magnetic marker that can influence nearby sensing behavior.

A magnetic tag is a marker that produces a magnetic signal and may be concealed near a sensor. If a sensor is sensitive to magnetic fields, the tag can influence what it detects without directly changing the device’s software or touching its controls.

In robotics, a magnetic tag could interfere with touch-sensing behavior and lead a system to misjudge contact or pressure. That can cause poor grip decisions, such as dropping or squeezing an object. Defenses may include testing sensors under varied environmental conditions, checking readings for anomalies, and combining inputs from independent sensors so one misleading signal does not determine an action.
