Mass production is large-scale manufacturing built to produce the same unit repeatedly, efficiently, and with consistent quality. In cyber security, it matters because once a device, sensor, or robot is made at scale, any weakness in the design or production process can be replicated across thousands of identical systems.
Attackers can abuse mass production by inserting counterfeit parts, malicious firmware, or subtle hardware changes into a supply chain before deployment. Defenders use supplier qualification, factory testing, component traceability, secure boot, and hardware attestation to reduce that risk. For connected devices and robots, production quality is not only an engineering concern; it is part of the trust model. If manufacturing is sloppy or opaque, the same flaw may be shipped everywhere, turning one compromise into a fleet-wide security problem.
