Master records are the core entries an organization maintains for customers, suppliers, or other business entities. They may include names, addresses, phone numbers, tax identifiers, account details, and other information used across transactions and operational systems.
Because these records are reused in orders, invoices, and delivery workflows, exposure can enable targeted phishing, supplier impersonation, or payment fraud. Attackers may seek them in stolen business databases or extortion incidents, while defenders should restrict access, protect shared repositories, and monitor exports. Keep only necessary fields and securely remove or mask sensitive details when they are no longer needed.
