Mid-market firms

companies between small business and large enterprise size.

Mid-market firms are companies that sit between small businesses and large enterprises in size, revenue, and operational complexity. They often have more users, suppliers, and customers than a small company, but fewer dedicated security resources than a major enterprise. That combination makes them an important category in cyber security planning.

Attackers target mid-market firms because they can offer valuable data, access to partner networks, and business disruption without the maturity of enterprise-grade defenses. In real incidents, these organizations may be pressured through ransomware, phishing, or supply-chain compromise. Defenders focus on layered controls, reliable backups, segmentation, and incident response planning that includes communications and continuity. Because mid-market firms often serve both upstream suppliers and downstream customers, a cyber incident can quickly become a business and trust problem, not only an IT problem.
