Mobility as a Service, or MaaS, is a digital layer that bundles transport options such as buses, trains, taxis, bike share, and ride-hailing into one user-facing app or portal. Instead of each service being used separately, MaaS platforms handle search, routing, booking, ticketing, payment, and account management through shared APIs and data feeds.
In cybersecurity, MaaS matters because it concentrates sensitive movement data, payment details, and authorization logic in one place. That makes the platform a high-value target for account takeover, API abuse, data scraping, fraud, and service disruption. Defenders focus on strong identity and access control, encryption in transit and at rest, rate limiting, logging, secure third-party integration, and data minimization. In smart-city systems, MaaS also depends on interoperability, so weak partner security or tampered transit feeds can affect availability and trust even when the core app is secure.
