Network configuration

The settings and connections that define how systems communicate.

Network configuration is the set of settings and connections that determine how computers, devices, and services communicate. It can include IP addresses, routing rules, firewalls, network segments, remote-access settings, and the relationships between systems.

In cyber security, configuration details can reveal how an organization is structured and which routes may reach important systems. Attackers may use exposed diagrams or settings to plan access attempts or identify paths between devices. Defenders protect this information as sensitive, limit access to it, and review configurations to reduce unnecessary exposure and restrict movement between systems.
