An offtake agreement is a contract in which a buyer commits to purchase a future stream of output, such as energy, fuel, or industrial product. It helps project owners prove demand before a plant is built, which makes financing easier because lenders can see a likely revenue path.
In cyber security, offtake agreements matter because they are high-value business documents. Attackers may try to steal them, alter payment terms, or spoof them in business email compromise and contract fraud. A manipulated offtake can redirect revenue, create fake obligations, or support a supply-chain scam. Defenders reduce this risk with strong email security, multifactor authentication, document access controls, digital signatures, version tracking, and careful verification of any change to buyer, volume, price, or delivery terms.
