Organizational latency is the delay between spotting a security risk and putting the right control in place. It is not a technical bug; it is a governance gap. In cyber security, this delay can leave a known exposure open long enough for attackers, insiders, or careless users to exploit it.
This matters most when new technologies move faster than approval, inventory, and policy processes. For example, a team may notice that an AI tool can leak sensitive data or access systems too broadly, but controls such as access limits, logging, testing, or human review are not added quickly. Attackers benefit from that gap by using prompt injection, shadow IT, or over-permissioned tools before defenders catch up. Reducing organizational latency means shortening decision paths, assigning clear ownership, and making security controls part of deployment rather than an afterthought.
