Organizational psychology

the study of behavior, motivation, and relationships in workplaces.

Organizational psychology is the study of how people behave, stay motivated, and interact inside workplaces. In cyber security, it matters because attacks rarely target software alone; they also target human habits, authority, trust, and pressure. A request that feels urgent or polite can make an employee click a link, share data, or bypass a rule.

Security teams use organizational psychology to build controls people can actually follow: clear policies, realistic workflows, good reporting channels, and training that matches real behavior. It also helps explain insider risk, burnout, and why employees may ignore warnings when they feel overloaded or afraid to slow down work. Understanding workplace psychology strengthens defenses by reducing friction and helping people make safer decisions under pressure.
