OT asset intelligence is the discovery and profiling of operational technology (OT) devices, software, and exposure details. A useful profile may identify a device’s vendor, model, firmware, network connections, and known security weaknesses. It gives defenders a clearer view of what is operating in an industrial environment and where risk may exist.
Accurate intelligence helps teams prioritize remediation and manage remote access to sensitive systems. For example, an organization could use asset and exposure data to guide who may connect to a particular device, subject to tested policies and safe operational procedures. Inventories can be incomplete or outdated, however, and risk data does not by itself prove that access controls are enforced. Defenders should verify data freshness, policy behavior, permissions, and audit logs-especially where blocking legitimate access could disrupt operations.
