OT defenders

teams responsible for protecting industrial and operational technology environments.

OT defenders are the security, engineering, and operations teams responsible for protecting industrial and operational technology environments such as SCADA systems, PLCs, sensors, and plant networks. Unlike standard IT teams, they must balance cyber defense with safety, uptime, and physical process continuity, which makes fast changes and broad shutdowns difficult.

This role matters because attackers increasingly target OT with ransomware, remote access abuse, and stealth techniques that reduce visibility or delay detection. When malware can hide at a lower system level or move quickly, OT defenders have less time to isolate assets, verify process integrity, and prevent production impact. Their defenses typically include strict network segmentation, asset inventory, anomaly monitoring, offline backups, incident response playbooks, and coordination with operations staff. In practice, OT defenders are the last line between a cyber intrusion and a disruption to industrial control.
