Outside-in monitoring observes a vendor’s security posture using information visible from outside its network, without access to internal systems. It can track internet-facing assets and identify changes such as newly exposed services, misconfigurations, or other signs of increased exposure.
In third-party risk management, this helps organizations spot changes between periodic assessments and prioritize follow-up with suppliers. It does not reveal a vendor’s full internal security state, and findings can be incomplete or misattributed, so teams should verify results and maintain an accurate vendor inventory.
