Page load

The process of fetching and rendering webpage content and embedded resources.

A page load is the process a browser uses to fetch and render a webpage, along with its embedded resources such as images, scripts, stylesheets, ads, and trackers. The browser first requests the page, then downloads the files needed to display it and build the final screen the user sees.

In cyber security, page load matters because every embedded request is a chance for tracking, unwanted code, or malicious content to enter the session. Attackers may hide payloads in scripts, abuse overlays and pop-ups, or rely on third-party resources that load before a user notices them. Defenders reduce risk by blocking or filtering content early, limiting third-party requests, and inspecting what loads during the page process. Faster, cleaner page loads usually mean less exposure to tracking and fewer opportunities for abuse.
