Paragraph Composer

A layout engine that adjusts spacing across consecutive lines to improve justified text.

A paragraph composer is a layout engine used in word processors to distribute spacing across consecutive lines in justified text. Instead of stretching each line independently, it balances word spacing over a whole paragraph so the text block looks more even and readable. In practice, this changes line breaks, page flow, and sometimes the final pagination of a document.

In cyber security, that matters because document rendering is part of trust. A layout change can make contracts, policies, invoices, or phishing lures look different even when the text content is unchanged. Security teams should test representative files after office-suite updates, especially documents that use justification, templates, or strict formatting. In defense, a paragraph composer can improve readability, but it also becomes another behavior to validate before rollout. In attack scenarios, adversaries may rely on visual similarity and formatting consistency to make fake documents appear legitimate.
