Parental Supervision

Controls that let a guardian review or manage parts of a minor’s platform activity.

Parental supervision is a set of platform controls that lets a guardian review or manage parts of a minor’s online activity. Depending on the service, this can include approving account changes, limiting who can contact the child, viewing activity summaries, setting screen-time rules, or controlling access to certain content and features. It is a safety layer, not just a convenience feature.

In cyber security, parental supervision matters because minors are often targeted through social engineering, unwanted contact, scams, and harmful content amplification. Good supervision can reduce exposure by enforcing restrictive defaults and giving adults visibility into risky behavior. It also helps with compliance in child-focused systems, where consent and oversight are required. However, these controls only work if age checks are reliable and the guardian account itself is protected; if an attacker steals the parent’s credentials or the child misstates age, the supervision model can fail.
