Parked domain

A secondary domain name that points to an existing primary site, acting as an alias.

A parked domain is a secondary domain name that points to an existing primary site, acting as an alias. In hosting panels, it lets one website respond to multiple names, often for brand protection, alternate spellings, or migration support.

Parked domains matter in cyber security because they sit inside the control plane where a small configuration mistake can have large effects. If permissions are too broad or domain-handling code is flawed, a parked-domain workflow can be abused to place content, redirect traffic, or help a lower-privileged user cross into a higher-privileged action. Defenders should treat parked-domain creation as a sensitive administrative capability, limit who can use it, and verify that aliases resolve only to intended targets. In attacks, parked domains may be used to support phishing, domain impersonation, or privilege-escalation chains when a hosting feature behaves unexpectedly.
