php-src

The core source tree for PHP, where the interpreter and its low-level request handling live.

php-src is the source-code repository for PHP, including the interpreter and core components that handle requests and execute PHP code. Bugs in this code can affect the runtime itself, rather than only one application built with PHP.

Because PHP commonly processes web requests, a flaw in php-src may expose services running a vulnerable build; depending on the bug and environment, the impact can include remote code execution. Defenders should inventory PHP versions across production systems, install the appropriate security updates, and verify that running services use the patched build. Application-level safeguards do not replace updating the underlying runtime.
