PHP2Shell

A label for PHP memory-safety research involving request-handling flaws and exploit attempts.

PHP2Shell is a label for PHP memory-safety research focused on flaws in request handling and attempts to exploit them. Memory-safety bugs can corrupt a PHP process’s memory, potentially causing crashes or, in some circumstances, enabling an attacker to execute code. The label does not by itself identify a confirmed vulnerability or prove that an attack succeeded.

In real attacks, crafted requests may target a vulnerable PHP runtime. An attacker may also try to bypass Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR), which makes memory locations harder to predict; bypassing ASLR alone does not demonstrate successful code execution or compromise. Defenders should update PHP and related components, keep supported protections such as ASLR enabled, and investigate unusual request patterns, PHP worker crashes, or memory errors. Treat attack attempts and exploit techniques as warning signals, not proof of a breach.
