Policy guidance is a set of recommended security actions, limits, or control settings that help teams respond to risky behavior. It is not usually a hard enforcement rule by itself; instead, it tells administrators how to configure access, monitoring, approvals, and escalation when activity looks suspicious or unusual.
In cyber security, policy guidance matters because visibility alone does not stop abuse. For example, if a browser session shows a human user or AI agent moving toward sensitive data, guidance can tell defenders whether to block the action, require review, shorten session privileges, or preserve evidence. In attacks, weak or absent policy guidance can leave analysts unsure how to react to automation, delegated access, or unexpected behavior. In defenses, it helps turn telemetry and session records into consistent decisions, so teams can investigate faster and enforce least privilege without relying on guesswork.
