Portal telemetry

logs and signals that show how users and scripts interact with a portal.

Portal telemetry is the logs and signals that show how users and scripts interact with a web portal. It can include login events, page views, API calls, session duration, request frequency, navigation paths, device details, and source IPs. In security operations, this data helps defenders understand normal behavior and spot access that is unusual for a given account, role, or business process.

It matters because portals often expose sensitive customer, support, or operational records. Attackers may use low-and-slow scraping, scripted browsing, or repeated record lookups to collect data without triggering obvious alarms. Good portal telemetry can reveal patterns such as high request volume, unusual geographies, automated browsing, or repeated access to many records in a short time. Defenders use these signals to detect abuse, investigate suspicious sessions, and tune controls like rate limits, MFA, and session monitoring.
