A pre-release asset is software, media, or related content shared before its public launch. In cyber security, these assets matter because they often contain unreleased code, story content, internal documentation, credentials, or product plans. Once copied outside the intended release process, they can reveal technical details, damage trust, or create business pressure.
Pre-release assets appear in attacks when an insider, compromised account, or stolen storage bucket exposes a build or file set. They also appear in defenses when teams use access control, logging, encryption, watermarking, and provenance tracking to prove where a file came from and who touched it. For security teams, protecting pre-release assets is part of protecting intellectual property, supply chains, and release integrity.
