Prebiotic chemistry

Chemical processes that may have existed before life appeared on Earth.

Prebiotic chemistry is the study of chemical reactions and environmental conditions that may have existed before life emerged on Earth. It focuses on how simple molecules can combine, change, and accumulate into more complex organic compounds without biology being present.

In cyber security, the term is useful as an analogy for early-stage signals: a small, ordinary event can be the first step in a much larger chain. A port scan, unusual authentication pattern, or brief malware dropper may not prove an intrusion on its own, but it can mark the “before life” phase of an attack. Defenders matter most when they can separate a weak precursor from a real threat, then verify it with logs, correlation, and repeatable evidence instead of overreading a single clue.
