Presumption of conformity is a legal advantage under which an organization can rely on a harmonized standard cited in the EU Official Journal to show that it meets the specific legal requirements covered by that standard. It is limited in scope: following a standard does not automatically prove that a product or AI system complies with every applicable law or is secure.
In practice, organizations map standard requirements to their controls and keep evidence such as documentation, records, and review processes. For AI Act compliance, a quality-management standard may help structure governance, but teams should verify that the standard has been formally cited before relying on this presumption. Adoption alone is not enough; treating it as a blanket certificate can create false confidence and leave gaps in security, oversight, or compliance evidence.
