Product governance is the set of rules, review steps, and controls that ensure a financial product is designed, approved, and distributed for a clearly defined target market. It covers who can change product data, how risks and costs are checked, and what disclosures must be kept current.
In cyber security, product governance matters because many compliance failures start as data or workflow problems: unauthorized edits to product terms, stale disclosure files, weak approval chains, or missing audit logs. Attackers may try to alter pricing, risk labels, or target-market records to mislead customers or hide misconduct, while defenders use access control, segregation of duties, versioning, and integrity checks to keep product information trustworthy. Strong governance helps ensure that digital sales channels present the right product to the right customer and that firms can prove it later.
