A production pipeline is the ordered set of tools and steps used to create, process, review, and deliver digital content. In media, that can include editing, rendering, asset management, and final distribution. In cybersecurity, the same idea applies to software builds, content systems, and automated release workflows: a pipeline is only as trustworthy as each stage and the accounts, machines, and scripts that support it.
This matters because attackers often target pipelines instead of the final product. If they can steal credentials, alter source files, compromise a build server, or inject malicious dependencies, they may get harmful code or content into production unnoticed. Defenders protect pipelines with least privilege, strong authentication, code signing, isolated build environments, logging, and approval gates. A secure pipeline reduces the chance that a trusted workflow becomes a delivery path for malware or tampered output.
