Production systems

Live infrastructure used for real services, data handling, or deployment, not a lab or sandbox.

Production systems are the live servers, services, pipelines, and databases that deliver real business functions. Unlike a lab, sandbox, or test environment, they handle actual users, real data, and operational credentials. Any change, command, or failure in production can have immediate security and availability impact.

In cyber security, production systems matter because they often contain the highest-value assets: customer records, API keys, deployment tokens, model endpoints, and automation controls. Attackers target them to steal data, alter deployments, move laterally, or gain persistence. Defenders protect them with strict access control, network segmentation, isolated testing, least privilege, monitoring, and careful change management. A common rule is simple: evaluation and red-teaming should never share trust with production.
