Protein synthesis

the process cells use to build proteins needed for life.

Protein synthesis is the biological process cells use to build proteins from genetic instructions. In simple terms, DNA is transcribed into RNA, and ribosomes then translate that RNA into a chain of amino acids that folds into a working protein. Proteins are essential for structure, signaling, enzymes, and nearly every other cell function, so this process sits at the core of life.

In cyber security, the term matters mainly at the intersection of biology and computing. Lab automation, bioinformatics pipelines, and genetic or protein-design software all depend on accurate digital instructions. If an attacker tampers with those systems, the result can be corrupted research data, unsafe experimental outputs, or theft of valuable intellectual property. In that sense, protecting the integrity of the information that guides protein synthesis is as important as protecting the machines that generate it.
