PUN is the Italian electricity price benchmark, used by some indexed energy offers to set the variable part of the bill. In practice, a contract tied to PUN does not keep one fixed rate: the energy price moves with the benchmark, so the customer’s cost can rise or fall with market conditions.
In cyber security, PUN matters because benchmark-based pricing is easy to misstate in phishing, invoice fraud, and business email compromise. Attackers may rely on unfamiliar terms, hidden fees, or copied tariff language to make a fake bill or offer look legitimate. Defenders reduce that risk by verifying the source of pricing references, checking whether a contract is fixed or indexed, and comparing any benchmark name, fee, and payment instruction against trusted records before paying or clicking.
