PV solar, short for photovoltaic solar, is technology that converts sunlight directly into electricity using solar panels. In a typical installation, panels produce direct current (DC), which then flows through combiner boxes, disconnects, charge controllers, and inverters before reaching batteries, the grid, or local loads. Because the output is electrical power, PV systems can remain hazardous even when the site seems quiet or “off.”
In cyber security, PV solar matters because modern solar sites are not just panels; they are connected power systems with monitoring devices, communications links, and sometimes remote management. Weak authentication, exposed remote access, or poor network segmentation can let an attacker interrupt generation, manipulate telemetry, or interfere with safe maintenance. Defenders reduce risk by isolating control networks, hardening inverters and gateways, limiting remote access, and verifying that electrical isolation and software access controls are both in place before service work begins.
