A ransomware survey is a study that collects reported experiences or opinions from people affected by, investigating, or defending against ransomware. Unlike forensic analysis of system logs and devices, survey results rely on respondents’ accounts and the study’s methods; they do not independently verify each incident or establish what caused it.
In cyber security, surveys can highlight perceived trends, such as reported use of AI or attacks involving identity systems. Treat these findings as risk signals, not confirmed incident counts or proof of an attacker’s methods. Defenders can use them to guide reviews of identity controls, authentication, and access monitoring, while checking specific events against telemetry and forensic evidence.
