Re-verification

A recurring check that requires a user to prove identity again after a set period.

Re-verification is a recurring identity check that requires a user to prove who they are again after a set period. Unlike one-time onboarding verification, it is designed to expire, forcing the person to renew trust before continuing to use a service, receive payments, or access sensitive features.

In cybersecurity, re-verification helps reduce account takeover, fraud, and abuse by making stolen or abandoned accounts less useful over time. Platforms may use it for bug bounty payouts, administrative access, or other high-trust workflows where identity matters. It can also appear as a defense against burner accounts and reputation gaming, but it adds friction and creates new failure points if documents, devices, or network checks do not pass. Because it is recurring, re-verification turns identity into an ongoing control rather than a one-time formality.
