Recipient context

The user environment, role, timing, and prior exposure that can influence simulation outcomes.

Recipient context is the set of circumstances surrounding a person who receives a security test or suspicious message. It can include their job role, work environment, timing and workload, the devices or tools they use, and prior exposure to similar messages or training.

Context matters when interpreting phishing simulations because the same lure may prompt different responses from people in different situations. A click rate alone does not show why someone interacted with a message or whether they entered credentials, opened an attachment, or reported it. Defenders should document relevant conditions and use multiple measures, such as reporting and follow-on actions, rather than treating one simulation result as a verdict on an individual or organization.
