A recovery seed is a backup phrase, usually 12 to 24 words, that can recreate a crypto wallet and restore access to its funds. It is effectively the master secret for the wallet: anyone who learns it can import the wallet on another device and control the assets. For that reason, it must be kept offline, private, and protected from screenshots, cloud backups, and shared notes.
In cyber security, recovery seeds are a prime target for phishing, social engineering, and malware. Attackers may send fake support messages, spoof wallet vendors, or use stolen shipment and account details to make a request look legitimate and trick a user into revealing the phrase. Defenders rely on strict user education, hardware wallets that never display the seed after setup, and good operational habits such as storing the phrase in a secure physical location. A recovery seed protects against device loss, but it also creates total compromise if exposed.
