Remediation cycle

the process of identifying, testing, and applying a security fix.

A remediation cycle is the workflow security teams use to identify a flaw, verify its impact, test a safe fix, and deploy that fix across affected systems. It usually includes triage, validation, patching, and follow-up checks to confirm the issue is actually closed.

In cyber security, the speed and quality of the remediation cycle often determine whether a weakness becomes an incident. When proof-of-concept code or active exploitation appears, teams must move from detection to action quickly: confirm where the vulnerable component is installed, assess exposure, test updates in staging, and push patches or mitigations. A slow remediation cycle leaves more time for attackers to weaponize a bug, especially in widely used libraries and infrastructure. A disciplined cycle reduces risk by turning vulnerability intelligence into concrete defense.
