Remote Patient Management System

Software used by clinicians to review device data and monitor patients from a distance.

A remote patient management system is software that lets clinicians view device data and monitor patients from a distance. In connected healthcare, it receives telemetry from implants, home monitors, or wearable devices, stores the data, and presents alerts, trends, and status information in a clinical dashboard.

From a cybersecurity perspective, this system is a critical part of the medical device attack surface. If its backend, authentication, or device-enrollment workflow fails, clinicians may lose visibility even when the device itself is still functioning locally. Attackers can target these systems to disrupt monitoring, block activation, alter data, or create confusion in clinical workflows. Defenders protect them with strong identity controls, logging, segmentation, patching, and fallback procedures so patient care can continue when remote access is unavailable.
