Renewal is the point at which a subscription, service plan, or license continues under its standard terms after a promotional or trial period ends. In telecom and software, the advertised low price often applies only until renewal, when the contract rolls over to the normal rate or new conditions take effect.
In cyber security, renewal matters because it changes risk and cost. Attackers exploit renewal windows with fake invoices, phishing emails, and lookalike payment pages that claim a service must be renewed immediately. Defenders watch renewal dates for domains, certificates, cloud subscriptions, and security tools so coverage does not lapse. Missed renewals can break authentication, expose users to expired certificates, or create a gap in monitoring that attackers can abuse.
