A replica is an imitation made to closely resemble another object, system, or interface. In cyber security, replicas can be physical devices, cloned websites, copied software, or fake login pages that look authentic enough to fool users or tools. The closer the match, the more likely people are to trust it before checking details.
Replicas matter because attackers use them to steal credentials, deliver malware, intercept communications, or bypass visual trust. Defenders also use replicas safely, such as decoy systems, test environments, and sandboxes that imitate real services to study attacker behavior without risking production assets. The key question is not just whether something looks real, but whether its appearance matches its purpose and trust level.
