A reseller channel is a third-party sales path between the manufacturer and the end customer. Instead of buying directly from the original vendor, the product passes through another seller, distributor, marketplace, or regional partner. In security-sensitive hardware, that extra handoff matters because it can affect both custody and authenticity: a device may be intercepted, opened, swapped, or modified before it reaches the buyer.
In cyber security, reseller channels are important because many attacks begin before a product is ever powered on. A tampered device sold through an indirect channel can carry implants, altered firmware, or substituted components that undermine later defenses. Defenders reduce this risk with authorized-dealer lists, serial-number checks, sealed packaging, chain-of-custody controls, and tamper-evidence inspection. The goal is to verify that the item in the box is the same trusted device the vendor shipped.
