Resource management is the process of allocating limited computing capacity-such as memory, processor time, and storage access-among applications and system functions. An operating system may keep frequently used data in RAM for quick access while deferring less-used features until needed. These choices affect responsiveness, multitasking, and how well a device handles its workload.
In cyber security, resource management matters because attacks and defensive tools also consume system capacity. Malware may use excessive CPU or memory to disrupt normal operation, while security software must scan and monitor systems without overwhelming them. Administrators can investigate unusual resource spikes, limit application access, and tune services to reduce performance problems while preserving effective protection.
