Ribosome

the cellular machine that assembles proteins from genetic instructions.

A ribosome is the cell’s protein-building machine. It reads genetic instructions carried by messenger RNA and joins amino acids together into proteins. Those proteins do most of the work in cells, from structure and signaling to metabolism, so ribosomes sit at the center of basic biology.

In cyber security, ribosomes matter wherever computers manage biological data: genomics platforms, lab automation, synthetic biology workflows, and research databases. Attackers may target these systems to steal intellectual property, alter design files, or disrupt experiments and supply chains. Defenders protect them with strong access control, integrity checks, audit logging, and careful provenance tracking for data and code. Ribosomes are not a network protocol or endpoint device, but understanding them helps security teams evaluate risks in bio-digital environments where software, data, and living systems intersect.
