RubyDoc.info

A Ruby documentation service that generates docs from packages and repositories.

RubyDoc.info is a Ruby documentation service that generates API and package documentation from gems and source repositories. It helps developers browse classes, methods, and package metadata without installing the project locally.

In security terms, this kind of service is sensitive because it processes untrusted content. If an attacker publishes a malicious gem or repository, the documentation pipeline may parse files, render comments, or follow metadata in ways that expose parser bugs, template injection, or unsafe build behavior. Even when no code is executed, the service can still amplify supply-chain abuse by indexing misleading content or serving poisoned documentation. Defenses include sandboxing the build environment, disabling execution during documentation generation, validating inputs, sanitizing rendered output, and reviewing package sources before ingestion.
