Runtime behavioral defense

Monitoring live traffic for unusual actions or suspicious automation.

Runtime behavioral defense is a security control that watches live application traffic and looks for actions that do not match normal user or system behavior. Instead of relying only on signatures or static rules, it analyzes patterns such as request rate, sequence, source changes, parameter misuse, and signs of automation.

This matters in API security because attackers often use valid credentials and legitimate-looking requests. A runtime defense layer can help detect credential stuffing, scraping, abuse of business logic, bot activity, and other suspicious automation after an API is already in production. Defenders use it to spot anomalies in real time, block or challenge risky sessions, and add visibility where pre-release testing cannot predict every attack path. It works best as part of a broader stack that also includes discovery and shift-left testing.
