Safety Claims

Statements a vendor makes about how reliable, secure, or controlled an AI system is in practice.

Safety claims are statements a vendor makes about how reliable, secure, controlled, or well-contained an AI system is in real use. In cyber security, these claims matter because buyers, regulators, and defenders need to know whether the system can resist abuse, limit unintended actions, and fail safely.

For agentic AI, safety claims are especially important because the model may browse content, use tools, or trigger workflows. Attackers can try prompt injection, malicious instructions, or data poisoning to push the system beyond its intended behavior. Strong safety claims should be backed by testing, permission limits, human approval for high-risk actions, logging, monitoring, and clear deactivation criteria. Without evidence, a claim of being “safe” may hide a wider attack surface rather than reduce it.
