Security assurance

Evidence that a system has been designed and tested to meet defined safety and protection goals.

Security assurance is the evidence that a system has been designed, built, and tested to meet defined safety and protection goals. It is not a single scan or certificate. It is the combined proof from architecture reviews, threat modeling, code analysis, penetration testing, logging, and controlled evaluations that a system behaves as intended under stress and abuse.

In cyber security, assurance matters because trust must be justified. Defenders use it to show that access controls, isolation, monitoring, and incident response are not just planned but verified. Attackers often exploit the opposite: gaps between claimed and actual protection, weak test environments, or systems that were never validated with real misuse in mind. In AI and other complex platforms, strong assurance helps prove that tool access, network paths, and model behavior are bounded before production use.
