Seizure banner

A notice placed on a seized domain to show that access has been redirected by authorities.

A seizure banner is the notice displayed when authorities take control of a domain and replace the site’s normal content with an enforcement message. It tells visitors that the domain has been redirected or disabled under legal authority, rather than simply going offline from a technical failure.

In cyber security, seizure banners matter because many criminal services depend on public web pages to recruit users, sell access, and provide login portals. Replacing those pages can interrupt access, damage trust, and make an operation harder to market, even if some backend servers or accounts still exist. Defenders use domain seizure and banner replacement to signal control, preserve evidence, and reduce the chance that users continue interacting with the abuse service. For attackers, the banner is a visible sign that the front door has been lost, and that the service may need to move infrastructure or rebrand to stay reachable.
