Self-compassion

A therapeutic stance that encourages nonjudgmental care toward oneself.

Self-compassion is a therapeutic stance of responding to personal distress or mistakes with care and understanding rather than harsh self-judgment. It can include noticing difficult feelings, recognizing that struggle is part of human experience, and choosing a supportive response.

In mental-health care, self-compassion may help people manage distress and engage with treatment. When interactive software is used to influence attention or mood, it can complement grounding and bodily regulation, but it is not a substitute for clinical supervision or evidence of safety and effectiveness. Clear protocols and monitoring are important, particularly for vulnerable users.
