Serve

The shot that starts play in badminton.

In badminton, a serve is the shot that begins a rally. The server must strike the shuttlecock to send it into the correct service court, and the serve has to follow the sport’s rules for height, placement, and motion. Because it starts play, the serve is one of the most controlled and repeatable actions in the game.

Serve matters in training because it is a skill that can be practiced in isolation and measured for consistency. A shuttlecock-serving machine is built to automate this exact action: it feeds shuttlecocks with predictable timing, angle, and speed so a player can practice without a partner. In sports automation, a good serve is not random launch, but repeatable delivery that helps build routine, accuracy, and footwork.
